Small Problems Are For Small People

Have you ever noticed that small problems irritate us, much like swatting a pesky fly on a hot summer’s day.  But big problems stop us dead in our tracks and rock our world.  Maybe, just maybe, we are wired to live in the arena of bigger issues. The small stuff of life doesn’t challenge us, but rather irritates us to be bothered by such trivial matters.

I wonder if all of life is not an attempt to get us to live out of the deep places rather than to busy ourselves with the superficial and shallow.

Consider Proverbs 25:2 “It is God's privilege to conceal things and the king's privilege to discover them.” Why do we gravitate to discussions about the weather, the latest news event or conversations about another person’s behavior.  We too often revel in the trivial and miss the richness of discovering who we are and God’s design for us.

Our problems introduce us to ourselves.  And the bigger the problem, the deeper we go into the inner recesses. Blessed is the person who goes to the depth of their soul and finds an emptiness which compels them to reach beyond into God’s strength, ability and wisdom.

Pity the person who lives entirely by their own wits and resources; rich is the person who lives out of the depth of God’s inner grace. Life is not meant to be lived by our own self will and control levels.  The true treasure is discovered when we have to go so deep in our inner world  and then press beyond into God’s inner strength.  But that will never be known at the surface. Life is meant to be a partnership between you and God. Solo flights are at low altitudes; Going beyond your own understanding and knowledge is the where we discover the privilege of kings.
